I am an Indian national, working in Malaysia & have approved H1B petition.
My wife will be applying for H4 visa in this Sept’2014.
Her passport is valid till feb’2016 which is 1.5 years from now.
Does she require a renewed passport before going for the interview?
Please guide. Your response will be highly appreciated.

No she can use it for applying visa.
but make sure when she travels with you or alone, the passport has atleast 6 months validity.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I did ask the US Visa Service Desk also, but they are saying that the passport has to be valid untill the period of stay plus 6 months. Their reply is as under:
"Thank you for writing US Visa Service Desk.
Please be informed that an applicant is required to submit a passport valid for travel to the United States with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions). If more than one person is included in your passport, each person desiring a visa must submit an application. "
I didn’t know this. is it also applicable for H-1B ?
