So, I was checking the approved CIP codes for the 17 month STEM extension and notice that the code in my current I-20 qualifies as one of them. However, I got this I-20 after I applied for OPT; my previous I-20 had a different code that is not on the list. Which CIP code is the valid one? Can I still apply for the 17 month extension? What caused the International House to change it?
The new CIP code is the valid one. The first I-20 does not always state the CIP code in an inclusive manner. It is when you apply for OPT and the second I-20 is issued that the picture becomes clear. Not sure why this is so but by all means you are eligible.
All the best
