When would be the best time to file H1B Extension

I am holding H1B and is currently working in the United State. My H1B started from 10/01/2011 and it will expired in 9/30/2014. My question is when would be the best time to file for H1B extension if my employer would like to extend it for me?

You can file it six months prior to its expiry.
