Traveling outside US while on F1(CPT), discontinuing F1, coming back to US on H1B

I am currently on F1 (CPT). My H1B becomes valid in October 2014.

I want to travel to my home country in a week. I am planning to come back to the US only in October after I get my H1B visa stamped.

So effectively, I will not continue with my F1 (CPT) once I leave the US and till October. When I come back in October I would be on H1B.

Do you think I need to maintain a valid F1 status till October? Can I travel outside the US now and come back on H1B only in October?

You need to speak to your DSO at school and update the same information to him telling that you are leaving to your home country and could potentially not come back on F1 and seek his advice and options.

Status is what you need to maintain when you are in the USA. Read [Visa vs. Status in USA ](http://redbus2us.com/us-visa-vs-status-h1b-f1-l1b-visa-expired-i-94-valid-legal-stay/). When you leave US, it does not matter...So, when you leave, you need to ensure you are leaving maintaing proper status. To have your stuff correct, DSO should indicate that you are traveling in the SEVIS records for their records. So, consult the DSO.
