status change from H4 to H1B and back to H4

Please advise if I need to file H1B to H4 change of status for my wife before she travels to India.

Case Details

  1. She came on H4 VISA to US in May 2014

  2. Her status changed from H4 to H1B in October 2015

  3. My VISA extension got approved on August, 2016 but I did not file H4 extension for my wife. She had her own H1B.

  4. Currently my wife is on maternity leave and she will NOT continue her job.

  5. She is traveling to INDIA and will stay in INDIA for couple of months.

  6. While coming back to US she will need NEW H4 VISA as her previous H4 VISA has already expired.

In this case, do I need to change of status in US or she can directly go for her H4 visa stamping in India ?
