sevis terminated. got new i20 and new sevis for different college. Can I re-enter on my old visa?

Hello,

I’m an International student on F-1 Visa who got my SEVIS terminated 3 months ago and received a new I-20 with a different SEVIS for Spring-2018. I’ve learned that I can make a re-entry on my old Visa (valid until 2020) with my new I-20, within the 5-month period. Am I right? Will there be any problem for me at the Port of Entry? Can my entry be denied because of my previous termination?

Yes, you can use your new I-20 to re-enter US within 5 months. Check the USCIS 5 month rule on .gov Website

Well, Port of entry process is a total different ball game. You will need to have right answers and the CBP officer needs to be convinced. It is like a visa interview…so, it is hard to tell…you may have it easy go or may be difficult. So be prepared. There is no guratee for anything though.

Also there might be problems after entering US too( such as OPT extension permission etc) in the future since travel and reentery does not forgive past mistakes while reinstatement does. what are my chances to renew my f1 visa? sevis terminated while on academic suspension due to poor academic results(due to my lack of concentration caused by a family issue back home) I had a breakdown . I traveled back home before my visa expired. and the family issue was resolved during the academic suspension year . I was able to visit the hospital and visited a psychiatrist ,now I believe am able to resume my studies . what are my chances to get back to my school and I was wondering what are my chances to renew my f1 visa?

If your SEVIS is terminated or completed, you can enter the United States on an old visa with new I 20 and new SEVIS from different school within 5 months of your completion/ termination date. ( Not a legal advice )

I saw your message and I thought you could suggest me on the next steps.

  1. My friend has applied for withdrawal(end of 4th semester),and DSO has agreed for authorized withdrawl, so his SEVIS will be terminated with authorized withdrawal. What are the options for him? Can he reenter on same old F1 visa and admit into new school? Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Satay,

Mine is also same situation. I graduated in June 2019, but my OPT was denied because my hard copy of OPT request did not go to USCIS within 90 days period. I got this letter on Sep 26th and then I hurried to find another college. I did get accepted into new college and got new I-20. I came back to India for restamping my visa but my visa has been rejected twice for the reason 214(b).
Now it’s very difficult back in India to find job with good pay. a day1 CPT program sounds like a ray of hope to find job in USA and clear off my education loan soon. but the visa officer is very unkind and keep rejecting my request.

What should I do now ?

My F-1 visa got terminated due to bad grades. Now is there a slightest chance I can get entry in the US with new sevis and F-1 visa after 3 years

Hello,
I am studying in MSU (ND) and recently my f-1 status has been terminated by my DSO because I couldn’t pay the tuition on the given date. And I have been asked to apply for reinstatement. Since now the chances of reentry and reinstatement are very low, do you think any other school would give me new i20 and put me back on the status? Or is there any other way where I can maintain my status?
