Query on H1B

Hi,

My employer applied for my H1B this year and my petition got approved.
I was expecting my employer to schedule H1B interview.
But they are saying that I need to wait till a project that has US opportunity to attend the interview. Is this true?
Also, at this point in time, if I switch companies, should my new employer apply again for H1B next year or would my present petition be valid?
I am new to this whole H1B process and hence such novice questions.

Is this true? - Yes, most of the employers want to provide the most recent and accurate information to USCIS. Thats why they want to make sure whatever location you are going to be working at is reported to USCIS.
