I’ve completed my BCom and have been studying for CMA (Certified Management Accountant) for the past year. I wrote my part 1 exam recently. I’ve been working as an Accountant for more than 2 years.
Since the job market is pretty bleak for just BCom students I was thinking of pursuing a postgraduate course in the US - either a degree or a diploma/certificate. Having worked as an accountant I can honestly say that this field neither interests me nor am I willing to study further about it.
So I’d appreciate some advise or input from anyone who has pursued a different study path other than accounting or finance - like for example marketing or human resource, etc. Or ideas and suggestions about anything else I could study in the US.
US is a great place to study MS or MBA. You even have the choice to change your career by purusing MS in other fields. Having said that, in terms of job opportunties and visa regulations, it is a little tricky with the H1B Lottery. Read Apply to US with H1B Lottery . If you are really not happy with your career, you should consider changing the track and picking something you like. Just need to have clarity on your plan and how you can use your new degree to get jobs…Talk to few people…You can consider studying in US or any other country as well.
Thanks for your reply. Currently I have no plans of living or working in the US. I’m just concentrating on getting a PG degree. I’m researching a couple of universities like UC Berkeley, UCLA. Do you have any university suggestions which are less expensive and yet provide recognized programs? I’d appreciate your input since the amount of information on the net is vast and its pretty overwhelming. If I could get a few university names to check out I could focus my time on those.
Thanks.
