New Passport while H1B is in process

Hi Saurabh,

Thank you for providing valuable information.

I am in India and have applied for H1B which is in process. However due to some reasons, i have to apply for a new passport.

  1. Will this have any impact during petition approval

  2. Should i inform USCIS after receiving new passport?

  3. Will is be a risk when i go for Visa stamping?

Please suggest.

  1. I don’t think there will be any impact on the petition outcome due to this.

    1. Not required.

    2. Use the new Passport number while filling the DS-160 for VISA interview and use this Passport for VISA stamping. You should carry your old Passport, which you used while petition filing, for the VISA interview.
