Need advice on COS from H4 to F1

Hi,

I have enrolled in a university in FALL - 2015. I want to change my status from H4 to F1. What are the possible options? My ISO says it is taking 8 months to get the F1 status. But I’m planning to graduate by August 2016.

You need to file COS from H-4 to F-1. That’s I-539 petition. Typical processing time for COS is 2-3 months.

You also need to submit SEVIS fees prior to filing COS.

For my case it took 12 months to approve ,same thing happened to most of my friends also.,For applying OPT you have to maintain F1 status at least for 1 year or 2 semisters,but some schools may accept last day of approval also.So you please consider all these factors and contact your school international wing before taking any step. For only garduation no need to change from H4 to F1.
