multiple visa holder - f2 and h1b - is f2 still valid?

I have F2 stamped valid until 2016. I recently got H1B stamped which is valid until 2015. The consulate did not cancel my F2 visa. Now my employer has no plans of my travel in next 30 days but I need to travel to US for personal reasons.

Could I use my F2 to travel?
Would there be a problem at port of entry?
Can’t I tell the officer at POE that I wish to enter on F2 this time and do not wish to work during this travel?
What paperwork will be needed to travel in F2 in such a case?
What other problems will I face during the port of entry?

Also, will traveling on F2 to USA would cancel my H1b visa?

Hello,

I need to know some details about F2 visa. Can you please respond to my post in the forum by mounica…

Hi, Could you please help me in understanding how did your H1 interview go?? what all questions did VO ask you? I understand you have a similar situation like me where I have a valid F2 and want to attend the H1B interview.

Hi,

Regarding your query, I think as of what I know, you now have a valid H1 visa, so why dont u travel back on same, as u intend to stay and work in USA? Its always better to be on the same visa while in US.

Also you said your F2 is valid till 2016, so you will have to be sure about your primary F1 person’s visa status and things like he/she should not be on OPT as it would give you less chances of being deported at Port of entry. You will need I20 Document if u wish to travel on F2, if your spouse has got OPT then your I20 will have to be updated with OPT details as well.

I am not sure if your h1b would be cancelled or not, (connect with a lawyer to know about the same) but I myself did not tavel back on F2 as my H1B COS was denied, and also my spouse provided OPT I20 to me, but his visa is expired, so I did not want to take any chnaces of denial, and so I am taking a path of going on H1 Visa only.

Thanks,

Kirti
