My License expiration was tied to my OPT end date ie (04/05/2016). I filed for H1 and received the email receipt notice. I did not receive the form I797 yet and not sure when I will get that. Will the DMV renew my license based on the email receipt?

From their site looks like they want to see original 797C in order to renew the license temporarily. The hard copy should be received by attorney within 1-2 weeks. You can see w/ DMV if they can accept email, but at times DMVs are one of the hardest departments to deal with.
