Hi, My L2 EAD is expiring in May’21. My visa is valid till Oct’21. How long before the EAD expiry I can file for renewal? I have seen confusing timeframe of 4months and 6 months

You can usually apply upto 6 months before for H1B…there is no hard fast rule for others. So, technically you can apply for it anytime. Review the processing times at below link and plan to apply as needed. You can also submit a letter indicating the reason to apply early as the processing times are long.
