L1A Visa Duration - Max Time given?

Hi, I was in USA for 4.5 years in H1B Visa. Currently I am in India for more than a Year. My employer is filing my L1 A Blanket visa. My question is if my L1A is approved - will i get the L1A for 7 (3+2+2) years or for 2.5 years only?

For L1, it is only 5 years usually in total. They give in chunks of 3 years.

Hi Kumar, For L1A, I think it is 7 yrs. But my question was different. I already have spent 4.5 yrs in USA in H1B. Hence wants to know what would be my approved L1A Visa duration?

Non-immigrant US work visa allows following duration of stay in US under the cap (assuming you don’t acquire I-140 approved before the max out duration):
L1B - 5 years
H1B - 6 years
L1A - 7 years

The max-out duration is calculated as a combined cap of both L1 & H1 type visas excluding the no.of days stayed outside of US on time-off or on a break for less than an year. For e.g:
L1B+H1B - 6 years
L1B+L1A - 7 years
H1B+L1A - 7 years

However, one’s max-out clock would be reset if he/she stays more than 365 days out of US and the new visa used to re-enter US would provide fresh max-out duration as outlined above.
