Is spouse name to be mandatory in any of the couple's passport to apply for Kid's passport.

Hi,
I have H1B visa stamped and H4 visa stamped for my husband.Recently I delivered a kid and we are planning to apply passport for him.Now can we go head and apply passport for him with his birth certificate and our marriage certificate? Or is it mandatory to endorse any of our passports with spouse name.Please suggest.
