The school will need evidence of financial liquidity before issuing your I-20 document which is used for visa application. This includes ability to support yourself. For example, our school has an English language program for a fee of about $5,900 for the entire year. This comes to about INR 3.6 Lacs. Financial statements however must show available cash that is close to $18,000 because it covers room, board and food. If you show this as available in the bank, the I-20 will be issued. Property may not be shown in lieu of liquid cash. Within weeks of coming in, you can opt for on campus employment that will pay close to $160 per week ($8 per hour, 20 hours). Please keep in mind that $18,000 is a safety estimate required by Federal law, chances are you might eat less, stay with 3 other students and be conservative in expenses. Options are always available. Just don’t give up on your dreams.
Best wishes
