I have not filed IT return for last year(2013-2014). Can this create a problem? If yes, I want the possible solutiions.

I have learned from some people that while the verification is going on before approval, that my IT return might be checked. As I have not filed for last year 2013-14, Can it create a problem. I will be submitting it this year for sure. Please help.
