Hey guys, I wonder if anyone was in the situation: one spouse has a chance to obtain an H4 visa (as a dependant of H1B) but already has one year left from OPT extension. Are there any benefits of keeping F1 instead of switching to H4? Thank you in advance, Olga
H4 can’t work unless primary H1B has an approved I-140. F1 OPT allows you to work in the field of your study. Except for that no other benefit. On H4 you can still study in college. In many cases H4 may qualify for in state fees rather than international student.
