H4 to H1 while H4 expires in 31 Aug 2014

Hi,

I am working in H1B status and my wife is here on H4. My H1 and her H4 are due to expire on Aug 31st 2014. Another company is going to be applying for her H4 to H1 with COS. My questions are:

  1. Will the H4 to H1 cover the gap of the month of Sep 2014 where she will not have a status? or she would need to have status by extneding her H4?

  2. If both the applcations of H4 to H1 and H4 extension are applied at the same time and the H1 gets approved earlier and then H4 gets extended. Can her employer get it ammended?

Please advice.
