My previous job ended couple of months ago. i 94 valid for another year. I was able to find a new job right before the 60 day grace period. Transfer petition also filed and job started. But now I got an i9 DHS TNC that has to be resolved in a week’s time in my new job. When I called DHS, they are asking for new employer petition’s receipt number to proceed which I don’t have still as the petition was filed just few days ago. Wanted to know what are my options here other than hoping to get receipt number in time to not go out of job. Please help.
In general, you need the receipt number to start working for the new employer. Having valid I-94 does not matter, you need to maintain your H1B status properly and should not violate any terms. Discuss with your attorney on the steps.
