I recently filed an H-1B transfer petition in January 2026 and received a Request for Evidence (RFE) stating that I must contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to verify or correct my I-94 record and provide documentation of this attempt.

For background, I previously completed an H-1B transfer in August 2025 without any issues. My current I-94 reflects an expiration date of January 3, 2024 as per my visa stamp, while the date printed at the port of entry by CBP shows January 13, 2024.

I am already coordinating with my immigration team; however, I would greatly appreciate any guidance from anyone who has faced a similar situation. Specifically, I am seeking clarification on the following:

  1. What specific steps should be taken with CBP to properly address this issue?

  2. What documents should be carried when visiting a CBP Deferred Inspection Office?

  3. What type of written confirmation or documentation is typically required to properly respond to the RFE?

  4. Could the discrepancy between the January 3 and January 13, 2024 I-94 expiration dates be the reason for this RFE?

Honestly, this is very common to get 10 Days less or more for the I-94. I am not sure, if CBP would be helpful. In any case, talk to your attorney and take their advice and do what is required. Now a days many things are not clear as some of this could be flagged by AI or person not thoroughly checking.
