Hi.My H1B visa was initiated by my company and the petition is approved now.I797 document has not been received yet but confirmation on petition approval has reached the office.Now I want to take my spouse along with me.When should the process begin for the H4 visa for him?when should i get started on processes for him?

I think you are outside US. In that case, you will have to appear for H-1 stamping. Use the same process to initiate the H-4 stamping. Once stamped, he can travel w/ you to US.
Stamping involves getting all the documents from employer, completing DS-160 form, submitting visa fees, scheduling interview, going for biometrics and finally appearing for interview.
