May be I am not thinking clearly or over-thinking. Need your help, please.
I have two questions:
I understand from reading one of the posts on your website that no appointment is required to drop off documents if one is eligible to go through the dropbox option. I am wondering if the ‘no appointment required’ condition is good to only get inside the Stanley office provided you have an appointment to go to Stanley office on that date or is the ‘no appointment required’ condition good even if the appointment date in the website on the day of scheduling for the Visa interview is far from the date I plan to go to drop off my documents.
For ex: when I login to schedule an appointment, the website says “First available appointment is December 20, 2016”. I am eligible to drop off my documents though. Can I go to a Stanley Office say in October, 2016 to get my Visa renewed?
When scheduling for an appointment, I am going through a list of questions about the waiver program. As an applicant to get my H-1B renewed, I qualify for Dropbox option after answering all the questions. My wife is also going with me for Visa renewal. She is on a H-4 Visa. The website does not ask any questions to determine if she is eligible for the Visa waiver program.
In a few places, the information on the website says: “Each visa applicant must meet the renewal category to qualify for the interview waiver”.
I am not sure if, because she is a dependent, the system does not determine her eligibility? Please let me know if I am missing something here.
When you complete the process on us travel docs site, it will ask whether you are eligible for dropbox submission or not. Once it determines that you are eligible, it will stop showing you appointment dates and just give a dropbox submission letter and ask you to drop it at one of the locations. You can then drop the documents at your convenience.
When you say it doesn’t ask any questions for you wife, are you logged in as her and scheduling her process? If you are logged in as yourself, it will not ask any questions about dependents’ dropbox eligibility.
Thank you for the clarification. Yes, the system did not show the appointment dates.
When I add my wife as a dependent, the process will finally culminate in charging us $380. The dropbox confirmation letter includes her name too. If she has to create a separate account and answer all of those questions to determine her eligibility and finally proceed to get her dropbox confirmation letter, she has to pay $190. Right?
I called the customer service. They told me, since she is a dependent applying for H4 Visa, I don’t have to worry about answering questions for her.
I think you are ok proceeding with just your account and adding her as dependent in the same. They are correctly charging the fees - $190 for each applicant. As her name appears in dropbox letter, her documents can also be submitted along w/ yours.
Were you able to drop off your documents successfully even though the ustraveldocs website did not determine your wife’s dropbox eligibility? Also did your wife already have a previous H4 visa and you were just renewing it and hence qualified for dropbox? Appreciate your response. Thanks.
Hi,
I’m in similar situation. Was your wife eligible for H4 Dropbox during that time?
In my case I’m eligible for Dropbox, and my wife maynot be eligible as she had H4 stamping done in Canada before. But When I filled all my DS160 and her DS160 in US travel docs, it prompted me to do Dropbox without asking for any of her details(especially I doubt because she got her last stamping done in canada). So I’m just wondering if they might call her for In-person interview. Please share your thoughts. Thank you in Advance.
We haven’t travelled yet, we are planning to go for dropbox around mid of Jan. Will keep you posted once we do the same. Please keep me posted if you plan to do earlier. Thanks
Hi Rayak,
You mentioned that your wife was in H4, but was she eligible for dropbox (with in 1 year of Visa her visa expiration date) like yours? If she is not eligible, did she get her stamping done just by dropbox or did she had to go any further process? Thank you for your time in advance.
Yes, my wife and I were able to drop off the documents even though the website did not determine my wife’s dropbox eligibility.
She had an H4 visa and we were only renewing it.
My passport came back stamped, but my wife was sent a blue form by the US consulate asking her to appear for an interview. She attended the interview and got her new stamping.
You have to fill DS160 separately for each individual attending. And while taking interview appointment you have to mention ds160 numbers of all attending together
No. My wife is on h1, my wife, me and our son went to drop box. My wife’s h1 got approved, but me and my son application is still in processing. This was done on jan 24, 2018. It’s been 1 month we are waiting for our passports.

hi ,
I am also scheduled drop box appointment for me and my wife together on 06jan2020.
after scheduled the appointment my name and my spouse name displayed in the MRV FEE PAYMENTS details. Also when i click on the appointment history visa type is showing as H1b for my wife also.
but we chose H4 in her DS160. Is that going to be a problem?
