going to India with an soon to be expired passport?

Hi all,

I am in a unique situation.

  1. I am going to India for a 2 months visit to India for emergency with my passport which is going to expire in Jan 2015.

  2. I have to attend visa interview as my visa stamp expired.

  3. Since my visa is H1B, and I am a research scientist I am afraid I will be asked to wait for at least 45 days to get the stamp.

  4. Can I apply for renewal for my passport in Tatkal, get the renewed passport, attend visa interview, wait for visa stamp and then come back to USA??
