Do I have to leave the country when I-94 expired even I already had H1B approval for the extension period?

Hello,

I’m currently in H1B visa and will be expired on August 2nd. I already had the extension approval until 2020. My I-94 is valid until August 2nd, 2017 (based on the current H1B period).

My question is do I require to leave the country due to the expiration date on the I94? Can I continue to stay and work in the U.S when the date on my I-94 expired and I had the approval for H1B extension?
