Current Employer I-140 approved: How soon should new employer start GC process

Working for 8 years in US and have an approved I-140(7 months ago) with my current employer Got laid-off last month. Found another full time job and new employer already filed H1B premium based on approved I-140 but will start GC process ONLY after 18 months(non-negotiable).

Question is in the below scenarios what are my options and things I need to be concerned about

  1. If I get laid off again before(with in 18 months) GC Process starts.
  2. If I get laid off again during GC process e.g. 3rd year and new I-140 approval is still pending
