conversion of Indian driving license into US license

I am from India and i have driving license. I will be moving to Boston on H4 visa.How do i get US driving license so that i can drive all over US. Is there any way to get my indian driving license converted into US license?

Srubhi,

Unless otherwise mentioned in any DMV website, or if the DMV officer was/is extremely casual and accomodating, you have to take two test

  1. Written test - for Driving Permit (also called LLR in India)

  2. Road Test

You can drive a car with a Permit - ONLY with a licensed driver sitting in the next seat.

Other option is to have an International Driving License - with which you can drive to a maximum of 6 months in the US. But within that time, you have to get a US driving license if your plan is to be in the US for more than 180 days.
