I am on H1B visa and have to visit India for a urgent work, my I-797 approval is till 2016.
My wife is on H4 and her approval is also till that date, she can not come with me because we are expecting a baby and it is not recommended to fly that long in this condition.
Can she stay behind in USA when I out for 1 week.

Yes, you are in active status and this is no problem. H1B executives routinely travel. H-4 dependents may not necesarily travel along with you. Wish you the best for the new baby.

It still does not matter. She will continue to be in status. I don’t think you will get a 221g though. New babies bring some magic with them so think only about approvals and promotions.
