Applying for H-4 EAD while on different status

I was previously on H-4 status with H-4 EAD. My H-4 status is not yet expired, but my EAD expired. I switched to H-1b status a few months ago. However, I’m worried that I may be laid off my job, so I want to apply for a H-4 EAD in the meantime. Can I apply for an H-4 EAD while in the USA on H-1b status?

You need to be in H4 status to qualify for H4 EAD.
