according to my passport, my mother’s name has no last name but only first name. In my ds160 for f1 visa i have added her initials in last name as per her school certificate and finished my ds160 and submitted. My mother does not have a passport. she passed away long ago.
what should i do? is it possible to create new ds160( without her initials)?

You can create a new DS-160 form with the change you want to do, like without initials and use that to book appointment. Even, if you use the current one to book appointment, you can always create a New DS-160 and carry the same for visa stamping and submit the new one during interview or at the US consulate informing the change.

1)i retrieve application(current) answering security questions
2)go to view my application
3)go to create new application
4)(now application will be in editable mode)
5)edit and resubmit
now new confirmation page will pop up which i need to take print of for interview.
was it a sound decision to talk to embassy helpline? will this affect my profile? I am planning to try this, if i’m unable to continue, i will create new application like you say. what you say sounds better without mess.
