Visa extension before VisaExpiry date

Hi,

I got H1B in  7th May12  from my company and the expiration date is 7th Mar 2013. I have not been to US till now and will be travelling to US in first week of Feb’13  and then file for extension. Please let me know if there will be any issue in filing my extension.

Please let me know how soon one should apply for Visa extension before VisaExpiry date.What should be the safest travel date in my case.

You can travel to US as long as your petition and visa stamp are valid. Even 1-2 weeks of validity is also fine. Once in US, you can file extension soon after reaching here. Make sure your employer has extension papers ready so that they can file it soon after reaching here.
