PORT OF ENTRY- re entry questions related

Hi,

I got h1b visa stamped and went to US in the month of March 2014, due to an emergency i returned back to India in 2 weeks i.e first week of april. Now im planning to return to US in the month of May. Please let me know type of questions I may face at Port of entry.

Regards

They may ask reason to go back… Tell about the urgency… Not a Problem

Usual questions - who will you work for, what location you will work, how long will you work etc

I don’t think they will ask anything about returning to US after such a short break.

will they ask for paychecks…will they check SSN related documents…

did you get paid for the two weeks? I assume SSN wouldn’t have been generated. If asked, you can say that you had to leave within 2 weeks and couldn’t get the SSN (if you have already applied for it, then carry the SSA document).

Also have a letter from employer stating their intent to have you back in US to work for them. If you sent an email to employer asking for 2 week leave, then carry that as well.

No i didnt get paid for 2 weeks… but by the time i reach port of entry it will be almost 45 days of visit to India… yes I have SSA document with me…

Carry at least the SSA document and employment letter. For missing pay, does your employer intend to pay you once your SSN is generated?

And to add to the answers above, you must show continuation of good standing with employer despite your sudden return to India. This can be in the form of a letter that says the employer ‘was aware you had to leave suddenly and that they are now happy that all issues have been taken care of and you are coming back.’ It is an overkill, the point of entry may not even bother with such questions but no harm in having this letter in your bag if you can get it easily.

All the best
