Passport validity for applying for H1B

My passport is valid till Feb 2016 and I am planning to apply for H1B this year (April 2015). Is there any clause which talks about passport validity of xyz months/year from the date of filing H1B? In current situation, while applying for H1B in April 2015, my passport’s validity would be less than a year. Shall I get my passport renewed even before starting the proceedure? Please suggest.

6 month validity of passport if what I have typically heard.

6 months from date of application (April 2015) or 6 months from the date of stamping (around Oct 2015)?

Usually for stamping but some employers say its mandatory for petition filing. I would suggest you to renew it after filing before stamping. (Your DS 160 will map to new passport.)
