My H1b petition was approved in July 31

My H1b petition was approved in July 31 with petition expiry date as 31- Dec-13, does this mean that my petition is valid till 2013 december only?

Please let me know whether there is anyway to extend my stay in US.

It is valid till 31/Dec. Then you need to apply extension stating the reason for extension.
