My family applying for B2 visa, children are below 14 years, do my children need to attend visa interview

My family (me, husband, and two children) applying for a B2-visa first time to vist US. My children are below 14-year old . I have read in some webpages that children below 14-year old need not attend visa interview. Is it true…? Can we take children along with us if nobody is there to take care of them.
