I’m really really confused and depressed right now. I’m looking for some serious advice here. Actually i’m a 3-year student with 58% in my btech in EE which is primarily because of 20 backlogs i’ve had(i couldn’t attend my first years for some reason leading to an year-back and then it slightly affected my next year too). I’ve improved scores from the first year though and have cleared my backlogs too. My GRE scores is 160V and 164Q and toefl 105. Its my BIG dream to study in the US and settle there.
Do you think I can make it to a accredited(decent) college in the us and also get through the increasingly strict visa interviews. I need you guys to really enlighten me and give me some frank advices. I need help. Please.
You can make it into a decent school. The admission decision is not purely based on your academics. Always, the admission office is looking for your compelling reason for higher education in US and why you did not keep up in the first years. You need a really good Statment of Purpose in the application. I think you have got good Test Scores and you have a very good chance to get into decent schools. If you have the confidence that you can improve your scores, you can go for it. Start your conversations with schools in the US and seek their advice, you can write to the admissions office and graduate school or the academic advisors, they will respond to your questions. Your job is to find the schools that you are interested in and start communicating.
Thanks a lot for your answer, Kumar. I was wanting to get some advice on that for a long time. By the way, I also want to ask you one more thing. I’m a EE student but I want to do Ms in CS. Can I do that? I mean applying to colleges for CS, might mean having to compete with applicants who are originally from CS background? Wouldn’t the colleges prefer them over me, resulting in rejects? Would it be better to apply first for MS in electrical (which is my background and hence, easier to get an admit for) and then once I’m there, I may change to CS. How do you think I should go about this process? Please help.
