I came to US in H4. I applied for h1b.My current h1b visa status is in initial review. I need to travel to India in a week. During my period in india, if my h1b got approved, should i have to stamp for travelling back to US or i can return in my old H4 visa?
There will be a start date on your H1B , from when it’s valid. Till that time you will be in your previous status.
Check with your employer who applied your H1 to be on safe side.

Yes, generally start date will be in October and I believe you are free to travel on your H4. Confirm with your employer /attorney to be on safer side.
