H4 Approval dates only from Today, Not backdated in Approval?

Hi,
I applied for COS from F2 to H4 in Sep’19 with status be extended till 12/31/2019 (based on H1 validity). In Nov’19 my husband applied for H1 extension in Premium and got approved till June’20 based on this I sent a letter to USCIS in Dec’19 to consider my H4 application (as my case is not approved yet) validity be till June’20 instead of 12/31/2019. Today I received approval notice granting my status from Jan to June’20 so does that mean I’ll be considered as I stayed illegal from Oct to Dec’19 ?

I’m confused, please let me know if I need to do anything to correct this.

No, your stay was not illegal. If you get approval, they do not do it backdated, the date they received application is what matters…they usually grant only from the day it was adjudicated. Nothing to worry, you were maintaining status as per rules…In general, if you get approval, your previous stay tied to that was technically considered you maintained proper status.
