H1B Visa and Visitor Visa

Dear Saurab,

I have got my H1B Visa approved. Currently I am planning to take my kids along with me.I am getting their dependant visa done.

But I also would like to take my mother along with me for the first two months on visitor visa. I would like to apply for visitor visa. But see lot of things.

(i)Can I sponsor for her expenses while I am still here without invitation letter.

(ii)Does she need to show strong financial statements.

Kindly please help me on the what documents do I need to provide it?

Saurabh and Kumar might be busy because of Memorial Day weekend so I am answering. Documents are not as important as a question that does come up for the first time visitor. If this is your first time travelling to the US with family, you may not be in a position to also host a visitor such as your mom because you are a stranger to the US. Your mom must wait at least 3 months before applying for visa or travelling. However, if this is not your first US visit, you already have a place to live etc, then it becomes different. Your paystubs are important documentation as is evidence of international health insurance for your mom.

Thank you very much for your quick response and support.

Is there any possibility of taking them together ? As I would like to take my kids, I need my mom’s support for the first 2 to 3 months. Not sure I can leave my kids for 3 months over here? Can you please suggest if there is any alternative ?

There is one option - your mom can state that her travel plans are not final yet but all of you are applying together simply for convenience. Once approved, you can all travel together.
