If I got a 221g and subsequently was requested to submit my passport at a VFS Center in Canada

(1) can I do that in a different country (India) since I intend to travel immediately after my visa appointment?

(2) Also, how much time do they provide within which I need to submit the passport at a VFS Center?

No.

This must be done asap. If you dont submit the passport for a prolonged period, you visa application may be treated abandoned and denied.

ASAP meaning at the earliest opportunity you have but should not be delayed for months.
