I was on H1B from 2002 to 2007. I was in and out of US few times and total time on this H1B was 4-1/2 yrs.

I then decided to quit my job in the US and return to India in Oct 2007.

My new employer in India decided to again apply for a fresh H1B in 2009 which I finally got stamped and I travelled to US on this new H1B in Sep 2014. I have now been in US for 1-1/2 yrs.

So now how many years do I have on my H1B since I was back in India for close to 7 yrs. During these 7 yrs, I however traveled 3-4 times to US for 2-3 weeks each on business visa (B1/B2).

Please could someone clarify? Does the earlier 4-1/2 yrs get added to the max out calculation?

Your clock on H-1B has reset due to 366 day out of country rule. This will be considered a new visa. You may have traveled to US afterwards in those 7 years but I-94 records will indicate that entry was using a different visa class.
