Fill DS-160 for spouse before marriage

Hi Saurabh,

I’m currently on H1-B visa and my Visa expires on 03/31/2014. I’m getting married on November and plan to apply H-4 visa for my wife.

Please advice on below:

  1.   Can I fill the DS-160 form and take an appointment for visa interview, before the marriage itself? The interview would be after the marriage but can I take an appointment beforehand.

  2.   Does DS-160 form enquires about marriage date information?

  3.   Will there be any concerns from interview officer, during interview, about the form and appointment taken before marriage?

I want to complete the formalities beforehand, so that I’m only left with interview conducted, post marriage

  2. I don’t remember, but if it asks then complete it to the best of your knowledge. If it asks about marriage, then it may ask for spouse name, and wedding date.

  3. I don’t think it will be an issue. But if they ask, then you can say that there was not enough time b/w wedding date, interview date and return flight date. So you prepared it beforehand.
