F2 - H1b is approved, Can I work for short term project till Oct 1st

I came to US on F2 visa. I have around 5 years of experience in software development. My H1B is processed by a company and it is approved with the start date October 1st. My employer told that I can start working for them from Oct 1st.

During this 5 months, can i work for any short project for any other employer or any non profit organisation?

You cannot work on F-2. You can volunteer and that too only if there are other people volunteering in the same role. You cannot volunteer for a job for which employer would have to pay someone else.
