I’m on my STEM extension and my STEM OPT expires on Feb 4th, 2020 and F1 visa expires on May 12th, 2020. I’m planning to apply for Phd for Spring semester and would like to travel to India in Nov-Dec. Is it worth the risk to travel when my OPT and Visa are near expiration and what is the risk in travel? and if i decide to go do i need to go in for a visa interview with my Phd i20? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
There is no risk, you have valid visa to re-enter. Many have traveled back and forth in OPT…as long as you have all the documents from employer and have documents from DSO, you should be fine. You need valid visa for entry to US, if you come back before your visa expires, you are fine, no need for visa stamping…
