Employer vs Petitioner. How did your employer found you?

Two questions:

  1. What is the difference between Employer and Petitioner? If VO asks a question like who is your employer and then who is your petitioner then what should be the best answer?

  2. If VO asks, How did your employer/petitioner found you? (in my case my ex-colleague referred me) should I mention that? Is it safe to mention?
