Can i apply for OPT STEM Extension when i am in cap gap

My employer applied for my H1-B in April 2016 and got an RFE. My OPT expired in July 2016 and i’m currently in Cap - Gap. I am worried that what if my H1-B deny . Can i apply for OPT stem Extension when i am in Cap- Gap i.e after my H1-B Deny. Can i know what all options do i have if my H1-B Deny.

Doesn’t the extension need to be applied before current OPT expires? So you would not be able to apply for extension now. If H-1 is denied, then move to another status like enrolling in another school.
