Can H1B holder take a break for maternity and continue

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to go on maternity by end of August. I have just completed 1 year on my H1B. Just want to check with you all is it possible to convert into H4 and take a break for 1 year, and continue on the same H1B with out applying for other after the break. Please let me know if that would be possible.

You will have to apply for COS from H-1 to H-4 and once approved, you will be considered on H-4 and can stop working.

When you are ready to work, you will have to file COS from H-4 to H-1. If existing petition has not been withdrawn, then it is just COS. If new petition needs to be filed then it is cap-exempt petition + COS.
